Process Paper
The electric guitar has
been an important and influential part of our culture. It has changed the
music we listen to and in essence, pop culture itself. Therefore we have
come to the conclusion that the electric guitar was worthy of the title
"Frontier in History." Before the electric guitar, the guitar was merely a
backup instrument. It did not project very loudly, and therefore, could
not be used for many applications. The need for the electric guitar was
present, and the technology was available, it just took the bright minds
of a select few to come up with a prototype. The following is a summary of
the process we went through to create our project.
At first we were unsure of
the media that would best represent what an impact the electric guitar has
had on our society for our History Fair Project. After weeks of
deliberation, we decided that a web page would be the most interactive,
informative, and enlightening way to present our topic.
First, we decided to host
the page on RickLollar.com, Rick's personal website. From there we
proceeded to design the look and feel of our website. We choose to use
Adobe Photoshop 5.0, an image creating program, to do the graphics. After
the graphics were designed, we coded our main page using HTML 4.0 and Java
Script 2.0. We were happy with how it turned out, so we were sure that we
had found the right look.
Now we proceeded to work
on the content of our pages. We used some information from the Smithsonian
Institution site to help us on our pages. The Rickenbacker site was also
very useful. They all had a few pictures that we used for our pages. After
this, we converted our information into HTML code using Allaire Homesite.
After we had created the
main framework of the pages, we checked over the content itself to make
sure that it contained everything that we wanted to get across with our
project. When we were absolutely sure that we had our content in order, we
checked the HTML coding for browser compatibility and syntax. We finally
corrected all of our coding errors, and we were ready to upload this
information to the Internet. We used an FTP client called WS_FTP. This
program took the files off of our hard drive, and put them on the server
so that they could be viewed on the Internet. We ran tests, and concluded
that we were finished with our project.
In summary, we believe that the history of the
electric guitar was relevant to the topic of the history fair in the fact
that it changed our music, and our lives. We used information from
websites and books to create an informative website explaining the history
of the electric guitar, and why we believe that it is a "Frontier in
History."
