Modern Guitars
The electric guitar is now the backbone of
the music industry, but it wasn. t always that way. With the success of the
Stratocaster in the late 50's and early 60's, the electric guitar was
accepted as a powerful force in music. People wanted to have the same
guitar as their hero, and most of their heroes used electric guitars. This
caused a booming increase in the sale of electric guitars, and mainly
Strats. The electric guitar was on its rise, and since then, it has become
a mainstay is the music industry. Below is information about a few popular
modern guitars.
Paul Reed Smith Guitars
The Paul Reed Smith (PRS) guitars were an attempt
to combine the mellow tones of a Strat with the humbucking sound of the
Les Paul. It resulted in a widely used electric guitar with high sales
figures. It's Strat like sounds are almost like a real Strat, but not
quite. The Les Paul tones are excellent, although, there are no dynamics
in it's sound. Overall, the PRS is a well liked, high selling
guitar.
G&L Guitars
G&L stands for George and Leo, because the
company was teamed up between Leo Fender, and George Fullerton, two former
Fender Execs. Their G&L guitars play very well, and are similar to the
Fender models such as the Stratocaster and the Telecaster. Although, one
of the main differences in the Fender and G&L models are that
G&L's have ceramic magnets and adjustable pole pieces, as opposed to
Alnico magnets and non-adjustable pole pieces. Some even believe that
G&L's are an improvement upon the Fender guitars.
Gretch Guitars
Gretch's forte is orchestra style archtop guitars,
but many famous musicians use them, most notably Brian Setzer. Most Gretch
guitars are hollow body archtops. The Gretch sound is one very unique to
the electric guitar. Many players use these because they play well and
have a very unique tonal range. Overall, Gretch offers a simple, yet very
well playing and good sounding guitar.
Guild Guitars
Guild is a proud company whose finer
steel-strings and archtops rank with the industry's best, and whose
middle-level models pack exceptionally high value. Some of their guitars,
though, are "clones" of other guitars, such as the Gibson SG, or the
Gibson ES-335, but even as clones they are very high quality guitars. Even
their more affordable models are outstanding. All in all, Guild makes an
excellent guitar that many people like
